What is ‘Deen Dispatches’?
I write from different perspectives that I look through in my daily life and in my calling. ‘Deen’ is the Arabic and Islamic word for ‘faith, religion, community’, and dispatches are to be written at various times and locations and from different places, but grounded by the Deen.
My subjects include faith, religion, theology, philosophy, mental health, chaplaincy, history, and culture.
I have been trained as a chaplain, Imam, and mental health counselor. I have had the good fortune of serving as a hospice and university chaplain for a number of years. I currently (2025) serve the mental health needs of Muslims across North America, providing pastoral counseling and care through the Islamic tradition. I am very interested in the intersection between traditional and modern/clinical psychology, integrating religious needs into clinical approaches.
This blog is meant to express my own thoughts and experiences, and is not affiliated with any other institution or agency. Please see https://linktr.ee/sameer.a to book any counseling sessions with me.
